2018-2019 Parking and Transportation Overview

Residents – Students Living on Campus

Changes for 2018-2019

  • Parking Structure 1 Levels 4-7 will now be zoned Premium Housing H1.
  • Parking Structure 3 will now be zoned Non-Premium Housing H5. 
  • South Campus Housing (SC) will be available for students who want a low cost option as storage parking. 
  • New services include:
    • Bike Share - low cost hourly bike rental
    • Ride Share - match passengers with drivers going to same destination
  • Colonnade Drive from College Heights Blvd to Wetherby Administration Building will close Summer 2018 to begin construction on the College Heights Foundation Building.

  • Alumni Square Garage (AS) - $265/year (sales limited)
    • Located next to Augenstein Alumni Center
  • Premium Housing (H1-H4) - $240/year (sales limited)
    • H1:  Levels 4-7 of Parking Structure 1
    • H2:  Minton Lot
    • H3:  Pearce Ford Lot and Barnes Lot
    • H4:  Poland Lot and Avenue of Champions
  • Non-Premium Housing (H5-H9) - $120/year (sales limited)
    • H5:  Parking Structure 3
    • H6:  Adams Street Lot and Kentucky Street Apt. Alley Lot
    • H7:  Chestnut Street South Lot
    • H8:  Normal Street South Lot
    • H9:  Creason Lot
  • South Campus Housing (SC) - $50/year
    • Storage parking 2 miles south of main campus

Carless program – For residents who choose to leave their cars at home

  • Students enrolled in the Carless program receive discounts on transportation services provided, such as free access to GObg public transit, discounted enrollment to the Enterprise CarShare program, and discounts on airport shuttle service.
  • New this year, 50% discount for available Spring 2019 parking permits if purchased by January 31, 2019. 

Commuters - Students Living Off Campus

Changes for 2018-2019

  • To improve the parking experience for Commuters; 
    • Parking Structure 3 is now open for main campus Commuter permit holders (C1 and C2).  Most Commuters will be able to park on main campus. 
    • We are introducing a Premium parking option (C1) at Parking Structure 2 for Commuters.  Permit sales will be limited to make it easier to find parking in the structure. 
    • A lower cost Non-Premium parking option (C2) allows parking in five perimeter Commuter lots around main campus.  Parking in these lots is first come, first served. 
    • Russellville Rd West Lot is now low cost park and ride option (C3).  Lot is served by the Red Line every 9 minutes. 
  • A new option for Commuters who occasionally park on campus is the Daily Commuter Permit (DC). 
    • The Daily Commuter permit works the same way as Big Red Dollars.  You load a balance to your daily parking account and use an app to buy parking for the day in available lots.

    • Chestnut Street North Lot
    • Chestnut Street South Lot
    • University Blvd Lot
    • Parking Structure 3
  • Russellville Road West Park and Ride (C3) - $50 /year (sales limited)
    • Russellville Road West Lot served by the Red Line every 9 minutes
  • Campbell Lane / South Campus Park and Ride (C4) - $50/year
    • Campbell Lane and South Campus lots served by the White Line every 6 minutes
  • Daily Commuter (DC) - Uses pre-loaded parking dollars
    • Use an app to purchase available parking for the day.  Use DC permit to access lot purchased. 
  • Health Sciences (HS) - $130/year
    • For parking in Medical Center gated lot; must be enrolled in Nursing School or DPT.

Faculty/Staff – Employees of the University

Changes for 2018-2019

  • Lower HUB Lot will be restricted to an FS3 zone.
  • In the Adams Street Lot, the only FS3 parking will be near the CEC.
  • The FS2 parking spaces on Avenue of Champions will be converted to parallel spaces. 
  • Colonnade Drive from College Heights Blvd to Wetherby Administration Building will close Summer 2018 to begin construction on the College Heights Foundation Building.

  • Reserved Parking (R) - $720/year (sales limited)
  • Gated Parking (GH & GR) - $440/year (sales limited)
    • Gated Hilltop Lot
    • Gated Regents Lot
  • Alumni Square Garage (AS) - $265/year (sales limited)
    • Located next to Augenstein Alumni Center
  • Premium Parking (FS1 & FS2) - $240/year (sales limited)
    • FS1 - The "Hill" and Mimosa Lot
    • FS2 - Lots near Diddle Arena and South Lawn
  • Non-Premium Parking (FS3) - $110/year
    • Perimeter faculty/staff parking lots
  • Campbell Lane / South Campus Park and Ride (C2) - $50/year
    • Campbell Lane and South Campus lots served by the White Line every 6 minutes
  • Health Sciences (HS) - $130/year
    • For parking in Medical Center gated lot; must be associated with Nursing School or DPT.

Public Parking

  • Public Pay Lots – Four public parking lots are available on campus; Alumni Square Garage, Chestnut Street North Lot, Regents Pay Lot, Diddle South Lot. 
  • Meters – Meters are distributed throughout campus for short term parking.
  • Visitor Permits – Visitor permits are available at the PTS office.
  • South Campus – Free parking for visitors is available at Campbell Lane.  Check in required at the PTS office.

Topper Transit

Changes for 2018-2019

  • In support of WKU's sustainability initiative, Topper Transit Bus #13 has now converted to using 100% biodiesel fuel. 
  • With the opening of Parking Structure 3, the Red Line has been reconfigured and will no longer serve the Downtown Parking Garage. 

Transit Route Overview

  • White Line – Weekdays service connects Main Campus and South Campus.  Includes stops on Creason.
  • Red Line – Weekday service Main Campus with Russellville Road West Park and Ride Lot.  Includes stop at Alumni Square Garage.
  • Green Line – Evening service connects Main Campus with South Campus and off-campus shopping centers.
  • NextBus – Use NextBus to track when the next bus will arrive at your bus stop.

Additional Services

  • Disability Parking – A WKU disability parking permit is required to park in disability spaces on the WKU campus.  Disability parking permits are issued at the PTS office.
  • Paratransit Service – Curb to curb service for faculty, staff and students with disabilities.
  • GObg – PTS sells semester passes for GObg, Bowling Green’s Public Transit system.
  • Enterprise Car Share – Members rent vehicles parked on campus by the hour.
  • Airport Shuttle – Shuttle service to the Nashville International Airport (BNA).
  • Motorcycle Parking – Motorcycles and scooters must be registered with PTS.
  • Bicycle Parking – Bicycles must be parked at designated bike racks.
  • Bike Share - low cost hourly rentals of bicycles.
  • Ride Share - match passengers with drivers going to same destination.
