2020 Student Research Conference Workshops 


This workshop series is intended to help students develop professional skills in general and, more specifically, prepare for the annual WKU Student Research Conference in the spring semester.

The workshop series is for undergraduate and graduate students of all disciplines. Presented by WKU faculty, workshops are open to all students.

 


Presenting Research Online


Presenting research and creative activities in an online capacity differs from presenting to a live audience. This workshop will explain how to plan and present your research in an online format.

How to Write an Abstract


The first step to participating in the Student Research Conference is submitting a brief abstract of your work. Not sure where to start? This workshop will explain how to effectively describe your research or creative project in 200 words. We will cover what information to include, what to avoid, and how to structure this important document. At the end of this workshop, you will have the tools you need to write your own abstract for the Feb. 16 deadline.

How to Visualize Research Data


Good communication doesn't just happen; it is the result of good design! If you are responsible for presenting quantitative information as Poster,  PowerPoint Presentation, or Research Article, this workshop is for you! In this hands-on workshops you will get the chance to access analytical tool, learn how to present quantitative information simply, clearly, accurately, and compellingly.

 How to Give a Talk


Presentation Workshop GraphicThe focus of this workshop is the traditional form of participation in an academic meeting - a podium paper presentation.This workshop covers modes of paper delivery, parts of a presentation, visual aids and tips for communicating effectively. Examples of presentations are evaluated.

How to Make a Poster

But how do you do all that with a single poster? This workshop will cover strategies for making a successful poster that offers a clear and engaging narrative of your research.
