Student Employment

Application Process for U.S. Citizen

Academic Year Procedures

Student must have filed a current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the results of this form must be on file at WKU's Department of Student Financial Assistance. A new FAFSA must be filed for each academic year.

The student should periodically check the Job Vacancy Binder in the Student Employment Office or visit the Student Employment website for any new vacancies. It is the responsibility of the student to contact those departments with vacancies and arrange for an interview. Once a job is obtained, the department must complete a Student Employment Request form in TopNet which will be forwarded to the Office of Student Employment.

If hired by a department, the student will then be required to complete the necessary tax forms (K-4, W-4, WSOT), I-9 Form, and provide proper documentation to establish identity (i.e. driver's license, social security card). Students must have a completed background check (if one has not been employed within the last 24 months by WKU). Students are not to work for the University until the completed background check and I9 are on file with the University.

Summer Term Procedures

Students must have a FAFSA on file for the current academic year. (For example, if a student is applying for the summer 2014 term, he/she must have a 2013-14 FAFSA on file.) If the student is applying for the summer term prior to becoming a beginning freshman the following fall, then he/she must have the FAFSA on file for the upcoming academic year. (For example, if the beginning freshman is applying for the summer 2014 term, he/she must have a 2014-15 FAFSA on file.)
