State Registered Nursing Assistant

State Registered Nurse Aide (SRNA) Course

One of the requirements to any professional health program (medical school, physician assistant programs, etc.) is experience in the health field. Some physician assistant programs require upwards of 1000 hands-on hours in the health field. The hands-on experience cannot simply be shadowing, but must involve direct patient interaction. One way of acquiring these hours is to work as a SRNA in a long-term care facility.  AHEC is offering a SRNA course to prepare students for the state exam. Once a student passes the state exam, they can begin working as a SRNA.

Why SRNA (previously known as a CNA)?

Physician Assistant programs are requiring applicants to have extensive hands-on experience working with patients. Many programs require upwards of 1000 hours. To meet this requirement, students can work in long-term care facilities as an SRNA. Working as a SRNA gives students valuable experience working one-on-one with patients and their families.
