Jaggers-Cave Scholarships for Undergraduates with a Major in the Department of Psychology

In-state tuition scholarships are awarded each year to psychology majors, made possible by the will of Dr. Lourine Cave, a long-time Western psychology professor. Recipients must be Kentucky residents, a junior or senior during the scholarship year, and have strong academic records. Financial need is also considered.

To be considered for a scholarship for the following academic year, complete the TOPDollar scholarship application form by February 1.

Dotson Graduate Scholarship

For incoming and current school and clinical graduate students.

Dr. Elsie Dotson was a clinical psychologist and a member of Western's Psychology Department from 1960 until her retirement in 1986.  Upon her death in 1989, a portion of her estate was used to create a scholarship for a psychology graduate student.  Those of us who knew Elsie remember her with great affection and respect.  She was a superb teacher and clinical psychologist.  She was strongly committed to the education and welfare of our students, as is shown by the scholarship she endowed.

The Dotson scholarship is typically around $600. Dr. Dotson wished the selection committee to consider both academic merit and financial need in determining who receives the scholarship. Please take the time to provide relevant information on the application forms for the committee to consider in making this important decision.

Jaggers-Cave Graduate Scholarship

Dr. Lourine Cave was a Western graduate who returned and served as a professor in Western's

Psychology Department from 1947 until 1976. She died in 1998, willing her entire estate to Western. Those of us who knew Lourine remember her with great affection and respect.  She was strongly committed to the education and welfare of our students, as is shown by the scholarships that she endowed.  She asked that the scholarship also be named in honor of her uncle, Dr. C. H. Jaggers.  Dr. Jaggers served as the head of the Department of Psychology during the 1950s.

Dr. Cave wished the selection committee to consider both academic merit and financial need in determining who receives the scholarship. The committee uses this information to determine the amount of scholarship to award. Please take the time to provide relevant information on the application forms for the committee to consider in making this important decision.
