International Employee Services

International Faculty & Staff

Western Kentucky University is home to approximately 100 international faculty and staff representing over 35 countries. Support for immigration issues for international faculty and staff are managed through the Office of International Programs (OIP). While there are a wide variety of immigration statuses and visas, the most common are H-1B and Permanent Resident. The OIP staff is happy to meet with you to discuss your individual situation and provide assistance for alternative immigration status.

A Note on Terminology:

A "visa" is a stamp in the passport issued by a US Embassy or Consulate abroad. A visa allows a person to travel to the United States and apply for admission to the US at the Port of Entry. If a visitor is outside the US and will need to apply for a visa in order to travel, allow additional time for visa processing beyond that indicated below.

"Status" refers to the immigration status the person has in the US, which may not match the visa. Status is indicated by the "I-94 Departure Record."

Inviting International Visitors

WKU hosts a variety of academic visitors from around the world. Federal guidelines provide specific rules on what types of foreign nationals may be paid or reimbursed for services. Departments should consult with OIP regarding federal immigration procedures if they have questions. For quick general information regarding visitor visas, please visit the Department of State.
