Electronic & Continuing Resources Committee (ECRC)

About ECRC

Charge: The Electronic and Continuing Resources Committee will evaluate and respond to all requests as put forward on the ECRC form for funding new library resources (databases, journals, e-books, etc.). The form will be posted to the Library Forms web page and completed by appropriate requestors/library liaisons and forwarded to the Electronic Resources Librarian for facilitation.

Library materials are shifting increasingly to an online presence, and WKU Libraries has been adopting online resources over print whenever feasible to provide improved access and to alleviate shelving and binding issues. In order to better serve the library and the campus while maintaining a balanced collection of electronic and print materials, the Electronic and Continuing Resources Committee (ECRC) reviews and evaluates all proposals for continuing subscriptions (databases, journals, e-journals, e-books, etc.), regardless of whether they are in electronic or print format.

Laura DeLancey, Electronic Resources Librarian, is the Chair of the ECRC. Committee members consist of the following:

  • One representative from Serials (Tracy Bryan)
  • Collection Services Coordinator (Jack Montgomery)
  • Systems Coordinator (Nelda Sims)
  • Reference & Periodicals Services Coordinator (currently Bryan Carson)
  • One representative from Library Special Collections (currently Nancy Richey)

Procedures and Guidelines

To accomplish their mission, the ECRC uses the following procedures and guidelines:

Rationale: With library materials shifting increasingly to an online presence, with serials now being termed "continuing resources" to encompass a broader scope of integrating resources, and with University Libraries adopting a position of online over print whenever feasible to provide improved access and thereby alleviate shelving and binding issues, this single committee can best serve the library and its users over the past distinct committees for print resources and electronic resources.
