Welcome to the University Libraries at WKU. We hope you find the Library web site full of useful information, resources and forthcoming events that extend our reach to the University Community, whether on the main campus, regional campuses or as online learners at home. WKU Libraries has a window of opportunity to look from within and without at staffing, services, systems, and collections.

With the opening of the Commons at Cravens, spring 2013, we begin a transformative period in library service with an area that offers lab computers, collaborative and individual study areas, and, most importantly, a single service point for research assistance, technology support, and the Writing Center tutoring service. Circulations Services remains a key part of this Cravens 4th floor for checking out materials and laptops. The Commons is a place Where Knowledge Unfolds. We look forward to creating additional spaces that will meet the needs of students and faculty for the library as a physical and virtual place.

We have converted research guides to LibGuides to better integrate curricular support, research needs, and library instruction in a variety of formats and functions. To further online learning, we are making a concerted effort, in consultation with each department, to move as many journals as possible to online platforms. We always welcome suggestions for new titles, databases, and journals by contacting any one of our library faculty or just filling out a form for the Suggestion Box. We also have six ways to contact us for questions! Just Ask Us!

Efforts to improve communication include the revitalization of the Campus Library Advisory Council, a group of faculty, staff, and student representatives who meet at least twice yearly to discuss strategic issues and stay informed about changes in services. They are critical to the ongoing effectiveness of our services, programs, and resources. We also have a community-based group, the Library Advisory Council, that reaches out into the community at large to support our literary efforts, speakers series, and other programs that need widespread engagement and initiatives. They are also our ambassadors to encourage membership in Friends of WKU Libraries. Consider becoming a Friend today.

Through my window of opportunity as Dean, I look forward to exploring the future of the Libraries as part of the strategic discussions of the future of WKU. WKU is a dynamic academic community. Library faculty, staff, and students are committed to excellence, lifelong learning, and collaborative efforts. We are here to provide research instruction and resources, to engage in scholarship and service, and to advance the quest for knowledge, understanding, innovation, and creativity.

Feel free to contact us with comments and questions. We value your interest and support in shaping the future of WKU Libraries as part of WKU's mission to become a leading American university with international reach.
