The first annual Margie Helm Awards for Outstanding Performance were presented to a library faculty member and a library staff member in December 1992. The awards were named in honor of Margie Helm who served the WKU Libraries for 45 years. In 2006, library student assistants also became eligible for the award. Starting in 2008, the awards expanded to include team-based initiatives involving collaborative efforts during the past year. Nominations are submitted by library personnel. The final decision is made by the Dean of Libraries and Department Heads.
