Housing Restart Plan

move in

WKU Housing & Residence Life has modified the move in process for all students to provide a safe and efficient experience for our students and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.

All move-in options require students to sign up for a move-in timeslot.

Students have three move-in options to choose from:

About Top Drop & Go

The Top Drop & Go move-in option allows students to drop off their belongings in their residence hall room early and return home until it is time to return to campus for the fall, avoiding the larger move-in rush. There is no extra cost for students to drop off their items early.

Eligibility
  • We highly encourage students who may be immunocompromised or who live within 75 miles of WKU to utilize this option, though ALL STUDENTS are eligible for TOP DROP

  • Students MUST have received their WKU ID card prior to arriving on campus to utilize the Top Drop & Go option. The ID card will be programmed to allow door access at the residence hall front door for the allotted two-hour timeslot.

Timeslots

Top Drop & Go timeslots are available August 1-11, 2020.

Students are required to sign up for a two-hour Top Drop & Go timeslot through the WKU Housing Portal.

The two-hour timeslot allots for electronic door access, moving belongings into the residence hall, and leaving campus. Timeslots are separated by 1 hour, per student, per elevator.

Instructions for Top Drop & Go
  • You will receive personalized instructions in your email after signing up for a Top Drop & Go Timeslot.

  • Student belongings should be left in containers; the room can be set up after students return to campus. Appliances and electronics should not be plugged in. Please DO NOT bring any food during Top Drop & Go.

  • Students should move-in the majority of your belongings for their room during their Top Drop & Go timeslot. When returning to campus, students should plan to only have a small amount of items left to bring (food, toiletries, etc.).

  • Families are strongly encouraged to review that they have everything they need prior to leaving the hall during Top Drop & Go. However, if you have left something you need, please call WKU Housing & Residence Life at (270)745-3143 to arrange a time for pick up.

Returning To Campus

Students can return to campus in time for their program (ex. Honors H4, Sorority Recruitment, ISEC Academy, M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan, etc.) or for the beginning of classes. Groups are asked to follow these returning timeframes in order to not interfere with other students moving in.

  • Potential New Members, participating in Sorority Recruitment - Can return August 13 after 5 PM, if you would like to be on campus to participate in recruitment virtually (need access to internet, etc.) OR can return for M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan at the times listed below.

  • ISEC Academy - August 16 at 3pm.  Please report to Downing Student Union for ISEC Academy Parent and Student Orientation.

  • M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan - can return to your hall on either August 17 after 5pm, August 18 or August 19th after 8pm, or August 20th 8am-10am.  The first M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan session will begin at 11am, on your residence hall floor.

  • Students not attending special programs may return to campus after 6pm any day between August 20-and August 23, 2020.

When students return to campus for their program, a maximum of one helper is allowed, though discouraged to help prevent community spread.

About Special Programs Move In

Students attending one of WKU’s early orientation events, who do not choose the Top Drop & Go option, can sign up for a move in timeslot on the dates outlined below.

Eligibility

Students participating in a special program; these students can also choose the Top Drop & Go option if they desire.

Timeslots

Move-in timeslots are one hour. This amount of time allots for curbside check in, moving belongings into the residence hall, and relocating your vehicle to a perimeter parking lot. Timeslots are separated by 20 minutes, per student, per elevator.

Timeslots are created with social distancing in mind to limit lines and overlapping elevator use. Students and families can expect approximately 20-30 minutes of elevator use before the next student arrives. Students should plan to move their items from their cars to the elevator as quickly as possible to maintain social distancing.

Timeslots are available during the following dates for each group:

  1. Sorority Recruitment – August 13

  2. ISEC Academy - August 16

  3. M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan –August 17-19

  4. Approved Early Arrivals - August 12, 14 and 16

Programs not listed here and require an early move in should follow directions from their program leaders.
