Howdy! My name is Nathan Terrell and I am so excited to be your H4 counselor! My H4 experience is one of my fondest memories on the hill and I hope it will be one of yours too!
I would first like to say that it is okay to feel a little nervous about H4. Being born and raised in my small hometown of Morehead, KY I was nervous about packing up and moving across the state to Bowling Green, and I was even more nervous to attend a camp where I was surrounded by a large group of complete strangers. Quickly though, (with a lot of dancing and awkward introductions) I found my closest friends and supporters at H4 and all of my nervous energy was out the door. So, don’t be nervous, you are not alone! Have fun and make as many friends as possible.
As you will learn at H4, it is important to your college experience that you get involved on-campus. On the hill, in addition to my campus involvement, I am a double major in Political Science and Economics with hopes of obtaining my juris doctorate. Despite the L-O-N-G study hours in the Minton study room, I have joined several organizations that have made my college experience thus far SO amazing. I am member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon (SigEp) fraternity where I am a member of our communications and alumni relations team! Additionally, you may have seen me at your TOP (Topper Orientation Program) date as I am a TOP Guide. Also, I am a Student Alumni Ambassador, a member of the Potter College’s Dean’s Council, and a student assistant for the Office of the Scholar Development. On Tuesday’s we wear black SGA polos, right? (HAHA, I am sorry for the Mean Girls joke!) On Tuesdays you can find me in the Student Government Association chamber where I serve as the SGA’s Speaker of the Senate. Finally, this summer I completed the Fulbright Summer Institute Program at the University of Westminster in London, England. If you are interested in any of the activities I have mentioned, please feel free to reach out to me! I would LOVE to help you get involved or answer any of your questions.
Running up and down the hill to club meetings and class it is only natural that I would love to run, HAHA! Currently, I hope to complete my first half-marathon with my sister this fall! When I am not running I am cheering on the Tops at tailgates or laughing with friends.
On a more serious note, I would like to share some advice I was given during my senior year of high school, I received the advice that I should make college a time of pushing myself to try new things every day. Your freshman year will be one of the most unique experiences of your life so make sure to use every opportunity, such as H4, as a chance to discover something new about yourself and try something new every day!
Being a member of the Mahurin Honors College has pushed me to new heights and has opened so many doors for friendships and academic opportunities I could have never opened on my own. -- I -- C A N N O T -- W A I T -- to meet you at H4 and to become a part of your WKU experience! As always, GO TOPS!
