My name is Margee Kassel, and I will be your H4 Counselor this summer! I am going to be an incoming junior here at Western Kentucky University and I am so excited to welcome you to the Hill and the Mahurin Honors College!
I am majoring in Psychological Science with a minor in Religious Studies. I hope to pursue my Master’s and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in the future. I was born and raised in Louisville, KY and graduated from Louisville Male High School in 2016. As a senior trying to decipher where to attend college, I remember taking my Honors tour of WKU and quickly realizing it was the perfect place for me to spend my next 4 years. I chose to join the Mahurin Honors College at WKU because I found it to be a welcoming and encouraging environment for me to grow as a student and as an individual. I hope you grow to experience the same feeling!
Being a student at WKU, I cannot stress enough the importance of being involved in activities on campus. Campus involvement truly helped me feel connected as I entered my freshman year. I became a part of Greek life and joined a sorority, participated in Dance Big Red (a 12- hour dance marathon for Kosair Children’s Hospital), and began working at the Kelly Autism Program in the Spring of my freshman year as a peer tutor. I am also an HonorsTopper for the Mahurin Honors College! My best piece of advice is to find on-campus activities that you are interested in and then continue to participate in them- maybe even bring friends with you! Also, if you’re passionate about something, take a class in it because you may find out that it’s something you can minor in!
I am also excited to mention that this past Spring 2018 I studied abroad in Grantham, England at a study abroad program called Harlaxton College. It was a complete joy traveling around Europe and I visited 11 countries: England, Scotland, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Iceland, Romania, Ireland, and Italy. It was an amazing adventure! Although I know that nothing can beat European scenery, it is necessary to mention that WKU’s campus is pretty close. My favorite spot on campus is outside of DSU on the grass under the trees- a great place to people watch and write a paper! You should check it out.
Fun fact: I am currently a Secretary at a Christian camp in Texas called Pine Cove and I am spending my summer being called ‘Meow’ because that’s my camp name!
Well, I am so excited to meet you and welcome you to H4! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me through e-mail or through social media!
