Laura King

Welcome to WKU and the Mahurin Honors College family! My name is Laura King and I will be your counselor and Direction Leader at H4! I hope you have enjoyed your summer so far and are looking forward to officially starting your journey as a Hilltopper. I attended H4 three years ago and this will be my second summer as a counselor. I am so excited to have you as part of my group and get to know you before heading to the Hill.Laura King

I’m a Bowling Green native, and loved WKU and the Mahurin Honors College so much that I decided to stay for another 4 years. When I first came to college I declared a major in Elementary Education, but quickly discovered this was not the path for me. I eventually went undeclared and explored an abundance of different classes, all along trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. My time as an undeclared major gave me the chance to discover new interests and passions, and although I was nervous about not having a set path, it was truly a constructive time. I am now pursuing a major in Corporate and Organizational Communication and minors in Performing Arts Administration and Musical Theatre.

I loved being involved during high school, and decided to carry over that passion for involvement into my college experience. I joined Kappa Delta Sorority and served as the Vice President of Operations during my freshman and sophomore year and now serve as Community Philanthropy Chair. I was a member of the Southern Kentucky Choral Society during my freshman year and participated in Dance Big Red. One of my most fulfilling involvements has been serving the Mahurin Honors College as an Honors Topper. As an HT, I have the opportunity to teach prospective students all about life on the Hill through personalized tours and admissions meetings, and serve the Mahurin Honors College in various other ways. Whatever you are interested in, WKU has something for you!

This past semester I studied abroad in Florence, Italy taking courses related to my major and minors. It was a truly rewarding experience and I couldn’t have done it without WKU’s support. I’ve spent the past two summers serving as a Resident Advisor at the Governor’s Scholars Program at Morehead State University and Centre College. There is no denying that I love people! If I have free time, it is likely that I will be spending it with friends or family. I also love jamming to musical show tunes, spending time at the lake, and trying local foods.

The Mahurin Honors College has provided me with so many opportunities to meet new people and try new things, and H4 was where that all began. H4 gives you the opportunity to form community with your fellow peers before even being on campus, and it builds some of the best school spirit I have ever witnessed. I encourage you to come to H4 and WKU with an open mindset and push yourself outside of your comfort zone. I know it’s cliché, but you truly will have more fun if you push yourself to learn from those around you through new experiences that weren’t previously available to you.

I have loved my time so far as part of the Mahurin Honors College. I have built some of my closest friendships and favorite memories through my experiences at WKU. I am looking forward to getting to know you and excited to be a part of your WKU experience. I absolutely love answering questions, and would love to hear from you if you have any or just want to chat! And as always, GO TOPS!
