My name is Jared Long, and I get to be your H4 counselor this year! I attended H4 as a freshman, and this will be my first year as a counselor! These few days are such a great way to meet the rest of your class and learn more about what to expect from your Mahurin Honors College experience!
I am from Louisville, Kentucky, and I will be a senior this year. My majors are Managerial Finance, Cconomics, and Chinese, and I have also been involved with the Chinese Flagship program. I am also in the JUMP program beginning my Master’s Degree in Applied Economics. I originally planned on studying Music Education, but switched to studying Chinese and Arabic before my freshmen year. Later, I switched again to International Business, and eventually switched one more time to my current plan. As a result, I love talking to other students about why they chose their majors, and helping others find a program that best suits them.
I’m involved on campus through my fraternity, working on campus, different clubs like the Chinese Culture Club, and college ministries. It’s very easy to get plugged in at WKU, but more important than the organizations you join are the people that you meet and the friends that you make. I’ve made so many great friends on the Hill, and even met my wife!
H4 and all of freshman year are great times where you will get to meet new people and make great memories. The best piece of advice I can give is to take every opportunity in this first year, and don’t be afraid to try something new. The best experiences I’ve had in my years on the Hill are from trying things I never expected to like and stepping outside of my comfort zone.
You’ve made a great choice choosing to become a Hilltopper, and I’m so excited to take part in the first part of your journey! If you have any questions or even just want to introduce yourself, feel free to email me or find me on Facebook or other social media!
I can’t wait to meet you all at H4!
