Welcome to WKU and welcome to the Mahurin Honors College! My name is Emily Phillips and I am so very excited to be back at H4. This is my first year as a counselor and I am thrilled to be able to share this incredible experience with incoming freshman like you! I can’t wait to tell you about my own journey here on the Hill and hopefully get you excited for your own!
I am from Louisville, KY and this year, I will be a senior majoring in Communication Disorders with a minor in Child Studies. Here at WKU, I am an HonorsTopper, a student worker at the Kelly Autism Program, as well as a member of the Christian Student Fellowship, Honors College Student Planning Board, and NSSLHA President. Coming into H4, I was confused on what I wanted to do with my life and what I wanted to major in, I had an idea but no set plan. After meeting my own camp counselor, I jumped right into my “idea” and have been falling in love ever since. Working at the Kelly Autism Program has given me such a passion for working with individuals with special needs and has driven my career pursuit in that direction with speech-language pathology.
Coming into H4, I didn’t know my roommate or anyone else who was going to be in the Honors College. I was extremely shy and nervous, but excited. Once I got here, I met some incredible people and left with friends, many of whom I am still friends with three years later. I hope that I can help you find these lifelong friends (and even be one, myself) and become comfortable in your own college adventure. WKU has truly been my home away from home and I would love for you to be able to feel the same pride, love, and excitement that I do. I have been able to come out of my shell and do things that I never thought were possible for me here, both in my personal and academic life.
I cannot wait to meet you all and share my love and passion for this university very soon! Get excited, have an open mind, and be ready to start your own journey!
Please feel free to reach out to me by phone or email with ANY questions, concerns, or just to say hi! I’m very excited to hear from you all :).
