Student Financial Assistance

Federal Student Aid Eligibility

The majority of students are eligible to receive federal financial aid to assist in paying for college. Demographics such as age or race do not affect your eligibility for federal student aid, and while income and assets are considered, they do not automatically prevent you from getting aid.

To receive federal aid, you must:

  1. Sign the FAFSA and attest that you are not in default on any previous student loans, do not owe funds to a federal grant program, and will use financial aid to pay for education purposes.
  2. Be a graduate of a high school or GED certificate program or complete a high school education in homeschool, as approved by your state.
  3. Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a student in an eligible degree or certificate program.
  4. Registered with the Selective Service, if you are a male between the ages of 18 and 25.
  5. Have an assigned and valid Social Security Number unless you are from the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, or the Republic of Palau.

Further, you must:

  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress while attending college
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or National, OR have a Permanent Resident Card, OR an arrival-departure record, OR have a battered immigrant status, OR have a T-Visa
  • Complete a valid FAFSA for the applicable academic year that includes the school code of the university you plan to attend.
