Environmental Health and Safety - Lockout/Tagout
Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout / Tagout)
During servicing and maintenance of machines and equipment, unexpected energy, start up, or the release of stored energy could cause injury to employees. Workers can be electrocuted or lose fingers, hands, or arms, or suffer severe crushing injuries because machinery is accidentally turned on while being serviced or maintained. Lockout procedures are designed to minimize these risks and ensure that the machine or equipment is isolated from all potentially hazardous energy sources and locked out before employees perform any servicing or maintenance activities.
