Minority Teacher Recruitment Program

At Western Kentucky University, the Minority Teacher Recruitment Program (MTRP) is committed to increasing the number of minority teachers in Kentucky classrooms through recruitment and retention efforts. The MTRP is dedicated to assisting students who are pursuing teacher education as a major, and collaborates with the Kentucky Department of Education and area school districts in bringing resources together. The Coordinator of the Minority Teacher Recruitment Program encourages all interested persons to explore the various programs within the School of Teacher Education by going to Become a Teacher page.

There are several opportunities offered through the MTRP, which is housed in the Office of Professional Educator Services.

Along with scholarship opportunities, the center provides workshops for students such as Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators and Praxis PLT prep, résumé writing and interviewing skills and professional development. The office also serves as a support program for minority education students at WKU.

The MTRP plans campus visits to middle and high schools and community colleges to speak with students who have an interest in teaching as a career. If you would like to bring a group for a campus visit to learn more about WKU and the teacher education program, or if you would like for someone to come to your school and speak, simply let us know by contacting us using the information to the right.
