My current research focuses on efficacy to teach social justice content in social work education, the institutional factors that support social work education for social justice, and educational outcomes of social work education for social justice.

PhD, Social Welfare, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) - 2013

MSW, Social Work, California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) - 1998

BA, Psychology, University of California, Irvine (UCI) - 1992

Originally from England, I grew up in southern California. Prior to receiving my MSW, I provided counseling and coordinated a psychosocial rehabilitation program providing support to community members living with a mental illness who were either homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. And, as a professional social worker, I worked for a national human relations organization conducting a variety of advocacy, conflict resolution, and education programs aimed at promoting more inclusive communities. I also have experience in community development and working with paroled juvenile sex offenders.

Prior to joining WKU, I taught both graduate and undergraduate social work courses for 10 years in the School of Social Work at CSULB.

I am the faculty advisor for the Social Work Student Union at WKU-Glasgow (SWSU@G) and am presently working with my colleagues and several students to create a week-long educational travel program that will focus on the unique social, political, economic, and environmental characteristics of Kentucky.
