Welcome to the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at Western Kentucky University (WKU). On March 23, 2015, I proudly assumed the position of dean. As an alum of WKU, I am thrilled to be at the helm of leading CHHS in its next stage of development. I welcome you to our website where you will find numerous educational opportunities in the allied health and human service professions. This is a very exciting time for CHHS at WKU.
In the CHHS, more than 5,000 students are enrolled in a total of 49 various certificate and degree programs. Within our 2 schools and 5 academic departments, we offer associate, bachelor, certificate, master, and doctoral courses. CHHS is a unique, unparalleled place to be during a time of increasing demand for allied health and human service professionals. For instance, allied health professionals represent approximately two-thirds of the health care work force in the United States. Likewise, service providing professions, including those in hospitality and leisure, retail, and education are projected areas for growth in the United States. Through a balance of rigorous curricula and experience-based learning, our academic programs equip future health and human service professionals in a wide range of capacities and settings ranging from direct, intensive patient care to a variety of human service disciplines related to children and families, design, and kinesiology. Our curricula is tailored to impact individuals in our community and beyond. We offer many of our classes at the three regional WKU campuses and through the South Central KY Area Health Education Center (AHEC), housed in CHHS. You will also find that many of our academic programs are online, thereby increasing access to education not only in KY, but across the nation.
Our dedicated faculty are accessible, invested in you, and pride themselves on being approachable to you throughout your education. The CHHS faculty expertise is diverse, productive, student centered, and award winning. In addition, we have strong collaborations with local, national, and international affiliates that enhance our teaching, support research projects, and offer opportunities for graduate placements, experiential and service learning opportunities, and research experience.
On our website, you will find many examples of how our students, staff and faculty are fulfilling their goals and dreams in CHHS. I hope you will take some time to explore our innovative projects and programs. We at CHHS are committed to do everything possible to offer you the educational opportunities that will help you succeed both at WKU and in your future career. We look forward to you being a part of our community.
