The Center for Energy Systems provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to grow as individuals. At CES, we develop critical thinking and data analysis skills. We also develop student communication skills, project management skills, and technical expertise.

The Center for Energy Systems provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to work directly with experienced engineers from market leading industries. At CES, we are able to learn from accomplished engineers and develop relationships with potential employers.

At the heart of the Center for Energy Systems is applied research. At CES, we provide undergraduate students with an opportunity to develop research skills and build relationships with experienced researchers - improving students' prospects for graduate school.

Location

The Center for Energy Systems is located at the top of the hill, providing undergraduate student employees a short walk to classes, campus dining, dorms, and student activity buildings. This allows for more flexible student work schedules.

Western Kentucky University is home to the Hilltoppers. Our hilltop campus is a place of beauty and friendliness. WKU is located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, a city with a population of more than 60,000 approximately 110 miles south of Louisville and 65 miles north of Nashville.

School of Engineering and Applied Sciences

There are several research projects for world-class technology companies - Samsung Electronics and Tempur Sealy. Undergraduate students work in a team-oriented environment under the supervision of the Center for Energy Systems' manager and research engineer. Bi-weekly or monthly meetings occur with industrial sponsors to provide them with a project's status. Projects primarily focus on energy efficiency research by modeling and analyzing dynamic systems to find solutions to real-world problems.
